
The Glendale Unified School District will host a farewell reception honoring Shant Sahakian to celebrate two decades of public service and nine years of leadership on the Board of Education.
The reception will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM in the Glendale Unified School District Board Room at 223 North Jackson Street, Glendale, CA 91206.
Shant Sahakian is a public servant and community leader who has championed children, youth, and families through a distinguished record of public service in mission-driven education, non-profit, and civic work.
First elected in 2017, Sahakian served two terms on the Board of Education of the Glendale Unified School District including two stints as the President of the Board of Education. During his tenure, he championed 21st century academic programs to promote college, career, and life success, fostered healthy, safe, and inclusive schools for all, and spearheaded government reforms to strengthen the public education system. He served two terms on the Delegate Assembly of the California School Boards Association (CSBA), representing school districts throughout the region and advocating for public school students and public education policy at the state and federal level.
He is a proud product of Glendale public schools, attending Columbus Elementary School, promoting from Toll Middle School, and graduating from Hoover High School Class of 2003.
Last year, he announced that he will be retiring from the Board of Education at the conclusion of his current second term.
